At BEM, we have a (French-speaking) department called "La Courte Echelle", which is in fact our children ministry. Below the article that came out in the last issue of the BEM Info (August 2010), written by Anne Zander, missionary among the children.
5th July 2010…
In the Marolles (part of Brussels), about fifty children, knights of the King of kings for just one week, wait impatiently for the opening of the secret room of the castle. Inside they will discover a king from the past, David, Herod or Joash, who will teach them through their own personal experience of God. At the same time, in another part of Brussels, little ‘pirates’ are discovering that Jesus is the only true Captain for their lives…
So, across the country and throughout the summer, all eight teaching programmes of ‘La Courte échelle’, the children’s department of the BEM, are being put to use by different churches!Hundreds of little Belgians will be laughing, playing, singing, making craft items and, above all, having the opportunity of hearing, perhaps for the first time, that God loves them and cares about them. It is such a great help for leaders to discover a kit, complete with files and material, an attractive and effective children’s evangelistic resource.
‘Let the little children to come to me..’ Jesus tells us.
This is a call for us to be concerned for the future of all the children we see in the streets, the children outside our churches. It has led us to create and use these resources as a means of inviting them to come to Jesus. Reaching out to the children where they are, respecting their vulnerability, their need for teaching on all levels, to let them come to Jesus, a real challenge!
‘La Courte échelle’,
- This is two missionaries, Caroline and Anne, helped by a small team of volunteers, who work throughout the winter to create these programmes.
- It is also the management a great deal of material and equipment.
- It is also the organising of monthly clubs in different places in Wallonia.
- It is also Caroline, fully committed to the organisation of the Christian Education Congress. (see www.education-chretienne.org)
- It is also training sessions with children’s teachers in the churches, and helping at conferences…
But, it is also those of you who are praying for us - praying for a constant renewal of our creativity and of our vision, praying for the many activities taking place throughout the summer and, above all, praying for all the children who cross our paths!
Do our programmes interest you? Would you like to pray more effectively? Or help us during a week’s activity? Don’t hesitate, visit our website www.la-courte-echelle.be and contact us.
