Bible Study: Ephesians
Ten things (among many others) we learned from Ephesians:
- The whole letter depends on the first chapter, but we cannot study this very chapter without referring to the others (read the letter as a whole).
- The letter was written to a church, not to individs.
- The letter refers to God's 'pleroma' (πλήρωμα) in each chapter (sometimes implicitly).
- The letter is divided in two: the 'theological' part from chapters 1 to 3, and the 'practical' part from 4 to 6.
-The Church is the place where Christians fight evil, we are unable to do it alone. This is the place where we are safe: we have to watch over each other to avoid idolatry.
- In the Scriptures patience (Ep.4.2) is never related to reward, rather to obedience and trust.
- Idolatry includes any behavior by which we prove that we are not satisfied by God and his gifts.
- Pray for your neighbor's 'new self' (Ep.4.24).
- Submission (5.21 to 6.9) refers to "be filled with the Spirit" (5.18).
- Opposition is a permanent topic in Ephesians: Christians confess, affirm their faith, stand firm,...
