Twenty-two years ago Eunice's grandfather accepted Christ on his death bed, three days before passing away. Unfortunately Mammy never understood and remained rebel to the Gospel. She was a very educated person and was looking for answers, but in the wrong direction. We prayed for her, urged her to accept the Message of Grace, she was exposed to the Gospel many times, but never accepted it.
This past year her health declined very quickly and she finally ended up at the hospital in the geriatric department - her greatest fear. She fought back, wanting to go home and die in her bed, but she was refused this last wish. We visited her two weeks ago just before taking off for France to visit Yann's family. She was pale, weak, in a very poor shape and we knew it was our last meeting. On Christmas Day her daughter visited her and prayed for her. Mammy was almost gone, but seemed to be talking to someone else... Christ? She passed away the same night.
Yesterday at the funeral Eléonore (Eunice's sister) was invited to light up the candle for the deceased (part of the Roman Catholic ceremony). She was wearing her favorite T-shirt, with the sentence 'I belong to Jesus' printed on the back. Yann had asked Mammy to let us know if she eventually took a decision for Christ and we had prayed for it.
After all, might Mammy be saved?
