C.J. MAHANEY, Living The Cross Centered Life: Keeping The Gospel The Main Thing

Christians should never move on from the cross to give their full attention to so-called 'mature' matters. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the cornerstone, the very center of our christian life and identity. We need to cherish it and live a life centered on it. We can only move into a more profound understanding of the cross. C.J. Mahaney encourages us to ask ourselves the following question: Is the truth of the cross something we have already adequately understood?

The cross climaxes the story line of the Bible - and it's the true climax of the story line of all our lives as well. The gospel's truth is to saturate our lives just as much as it saturates Paul's writings and all of Scripture. The message Paul had for Timothy is the same message God has for you. You need to rediscover the truth. The key to joy, to growth, to passion isn't hiding from you. It's right before your eyes. It's the gospel.
