If God Was One of Us

On Easter Sunday morning Yann went to the supermarket to get some meat for our barbecue. Have you already noticed how many people you can find in supermarkets on Sundays? And it's getting worse anytime the sun is shining (and at Easter)! While in the queue for meat (a looong queue!) the radio was broadcasting this song:

If God had a name, what would it be
And would you call it to his face
If you were faced with him in all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question

[...]

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

[...]

It was then Easter Sunday and nobody cared for a Savior nor would have been able to recognize God had He been in the supermarket. Neither did anyone when Jesus was walking on the Earth...

Do we need a Savior? YES, definitely.
We have all sinned and fall short from the glory of God (Ro 3.23). The consequence? An eternal separation from God (the Bible calls it 'Hell'). This consequence applies to everybody: we all want to govern our lives and refuse to live a God-centered life. Therefore we NEED a Savior. Jesus came to Earth and took God's wrath upon Him at the Cross so that we might be saved. The Bible invites us to accept the sacrifice of Christ and let him reign in our lives, to be committed to living a life which purpose is to glorify God.

Would I recognize God if he were one of us ? Well...
On the one hand we don't really know what Joan Osbourne implies with 'one of us', but we can tell you that God isn't wandering on the Earth 'trying to find His way home'. Jesus was on the Earth and knew exactly what He had to do... and He fulfilled His mission perfectly.

On the other hand we could say that the Church has received the Holy Spirit for spiritual discernment and that we would be able to recognize God among us. Yeah well, don't forget that the Bible says that Jesus will return in glory and that everybody will recognize Him and proclaim that He is Lord (Phi 2.9-11). Therefore we don't think we would be able to miss His coming...

If God was one of us? He's not. He has already been on Earth and will return in glory. Until then let's try to live according to Matthew 25.35-40: ' [...] as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me'. And get a Savior if you don't have one! ;-)

HAPPY EASTER!
(He is risen indeed)

Dear friends at the barbecue
